Our awesome new summer interns!

Aalto University’s User Interfaces research group is hosting no less than seven interns this summer:

Qiao Qiao Deng is from China and now an EIT Digital master student studying Human-Computer Interaction and Design. She’s working with Dr. Byungjoo Lee on the project: Like-A-Boxer: Simple and Accurate Estimation of Human Impact on Virtual Objects. This project aims to improve user performance by increasing temporal and spatial accuracy of collisions in VR interaction.
Vivek Dhakal Vivek Dhakal is a Master’s student at the department of Computer Science at Aalto university, majoring in Algorithms, Logic and Complexity track. Nepal is his home country, and he has also studied in India for a Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Communications Engineering. He likes following technology news, and has interest in human-technology interfaces. He is doing his summer internship with the group, with Mathieu Nancel, in the area of learning and skill acquisition characteristics in pointing transfer functions.
Mika Jokiniemi Mika Jokiniemi studies Cognitive Science at University of Helsinki and User-Centered Design at Aalto University. Mika’s project concerns differences in touch screen typing performance with the main focus in sharing of attention resources. He works under the supervision of Jussi Jokinen.
Magda Magda Laszlo was born in Budapest. She holds two bachelor’s degrees, one in Computer Engineering from Óbuda University and one in Business Administration from Lapland University of Applied Sciences. During her studies, she published her first paper within the field of Multimodal Interaction. She is working on a dual master’s of science degree, majoring in Human Computer Interaction and Design. The first year of this program was spent at Aalto University after which she moved to France to complete her studies at Université Paris Sud XI. For the summer of 2016 she will be working with Janin Koch on the topic of interaction design process.
Anantha Pillai Anantha Pillai is currently pursuing a dual-degree (EIT Digital Master’s) in Human Computer Interaction and Design from Aalto University and KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm. He joins the User Interfaces lab for a summer internship with Dr. Daryl Weir and during his time here he will investigate about web-page aesthetics and influence of colors in perception and first impressions of a web-page.
Johanna Schacht Johanna Schacht is currently pursuing her MSc in industrial engineering and management and holds a BSc in computer science. Her studies focus on Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Knowledge Discovery as well as Experimental Economics. At Aalto University she will work on Adaptive Design Optimization with Antti Oulasvirta. In her spare time she enjoys drawing, photographing and hiking tours.
Kashyap Todi Kashyap Todi is a PhD student at Hasselt University (Belgium), and is visiting Aalto University, for the second time, as a summer intern at the User Interfaces Research Group, to work with Antti Oulasvirta. His research interests include enabling end-users to customise and personalise interfaces around them, and empowering designers with new creative tools. During the summer internship at Aalto, he will investigate novel concepts for improving users’ experiences and interactions with widely-used interfaces, focusing on key aspects such as interface layouts.
