Janin was born and raised in Halle/Saale, Germany. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Magdeburg and a masters from the Technical University Darmstadt in Business Information Systems, where she focused on Management, Human Computer Interaction and Data Engineering. During her studies in Canada and Sweden, she was able to deepen her knowledge in these fields and published her first papers within the HCI field. Before she joined the group she was working for iZettle, a mobile payment provider, where she analyzed behavior patterns based on transactions, looking for fraudulent activities. Her research experience from the MobileLife Institute in Stockholm, where she worked on the presentation of stress-indicators in bio-data for therapy purposes, led her to the decision to pursue academic work by starting her PhD at the User Interfaces Research Group.
