Her thesis work significantly contributes to understanding modern typing behavior and proposes new mathematical and computational methods for designing novel text input methods. The work formulates a theoretical basis for using exact optimization methods to optimize the problem of assigning symbols to input actions for text input. Therefore, she conducted extensive empirical studies of human performance, ergonomics, and typing behavior. Among other cases, she used these methods to develop the basis for the new French keyboard standard, which will be released this summer, potentially impacting the lives of millions of French people. She also published two extensive datasets on modern keyboard typing which are available for anyone to use. The opponent, Dr. Shumin Zhai from Google Inc., stated that he expects this work to become a common part of the text entry literature.
