Supplementary Material -- Hurricane Isabel Case Study

This supplementary provides high resolution images of scatterplots showing the correlation between pressure and temperature of the hurricane Isabel. Each image shows a different dataset resolution.

The folder "optimized" contains scatterplots with optimized designs produced by our approach.
The folder "fixed design" contains scatterplots with a fixed design produced by an available statistical package, which design is similar to that produced by MathWorks MATLAB.

The design (marker size, marker opacity, image size, aspect ratio) of each plot:

Isabel_063_optimized.png: (11px, 63, 900px, 1.4)
Isabel_125_optimized.png: (7px, 53, 900px, 1.4)
Isabel_250_optimized.png: (3px, 74, 900px, 1.4)
Isabel_500_optimized.png: (1px, 38, 900px, 1.4)

Isabel_032_fixed_design.png: (10px, 255, 900px, 1.4)
Isabel_063_fixed_design.png: (10px, 255, 900px, 1.4)
Isabel_125_fixed_design.png: (10px, 255, 900px, 1.4)

This case study demonstrates that our optimized designs automatically adapt to increasing dataset resolution without requiring manual adjustments of their design parameters.
In contrast, the fixed designs produced by available statistical packages loose data fidelty and require manual adjustments of their design parameters.
